Drunk man’s hoax call triggers alert over ‘terror threat’ to Mumbai naval dockyard

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Nov 16: Security agencies in the city were briefly thrown into action on Sunday morning after a man, allegedly drunk, phoned the Mumbai Police Control Room claiming there was a terror threat to the Naval Dockyard in south Mumbai.

Police officials said the alert was quickly investigated and confirmed to be a hoax.

According to sources, the caller identified himself as Jahangir, claiming he hailed from Andhra Pradesh and had received information about a possible attack. However, the probe revealed that he was inebriated and had made the call while sitting with a friend.

Police are in the process of registering an FIR, though no arrests have been made yet. Authorities have urged citizens to refrain from such irresponsible acts, warning that hoax calls divert critical resources and create unnecessary panic.
