Mumbai, Nov 15: In a major breakthrough, the MRA Marg police traced a four-year-old girl kidnapped from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) six months ago to an orphanage in Varanasi and reunited her with her parents.
The girl’s parents had travelled from Solapur for the father’s treatment at St. George’s Hospital and were temporarily staying at CSMT when the child was abducted on May 20. Police launched a kidnapping probe and soon learnt that the accused had taken the girl by local train to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus before boarding an express train to Varanasi.

Four special teams scanned CCTV footage from multiple stations along the Mumbai–Varanasi route for months, while posters of the missing child were circulated with the help of Varanasi police. The breakthrough came when a local journalist from Varanasi contacted Mumbai Police after spotting the poster and informing them about a Marathi-speaking girl staying in a Varanasi orphanage since June.
A team from MRA Marg police visited the facility and confirmed that the girl was indeed the missing child. After completing legal formalities, the police took custody of her on November 12.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Mundhe said the child’s parents identified her via video call, after which she was brought back to Mumbai and reunited with her family.
