Amravati, Nov 12: A wedding celebration in Maharashtra’s Amravati turned into a crime scene on Monday night when the groom was stabbed on stage — an incident that was shockingly captured on a drone camera meant to record the joyous occasion.
The attack took place around 9:30 pm at Sahil Lawn on Badnera Road during the wedding ceremony of 22-year-old Sujal Ram Samudra. The accused, identified as Ragho Jitendra Bakshi, allegedly approached the groom on stage and stabbed him three times with a knife, injuring his thigh and knee.

What was meant to film the festivities has now become vital evidence in the investigation. The drone, deployed to cover the wedding, not only recorded the stabbing but also tracked the accused and his accomplice for nearly two kilometres as they fled the scene.
According to eyewitnesses, chaos broke out among guests after the assault. However, the drone operator continued recording and followed the attacker’s escape route. The footage shows Bakshi, wearing an orange hoodie, running out of the venue, mounting a bike with another man dressed in black, and fleeing while a guest attempted to chase them.
Police have seized the footage, which clearly shows the accused’s face and route of escape. “The drone operator’s alertness has been extremely helpful to us,” said Station House Officer (SHO) Sunil Chauhan. “The video will significantly aid in identifying and locating the accused.”
Preliminary investigations suggest that the stabbing followed a minor altercation during a DJ performance when the groom and the accused allegedly pushed each other while dancing. The argument reportedly angered Bakshi, who later launched the attack.
In the ensuing commotion, the accused also tried to attack the groom’s father, Ramji Samudra, before fleeing. A case has been registered at Badnera Police Station, and the investigation is being supervised by SHO Sandeep Hiwale.
Police teams are using the drone footage to trace the accused’s movement and have launched a manhunt. “The accused is absconding, but with the visual evidence we have, his arrest is imminent,” an officer said.
The injured groom was rushed to RIMS Hospital, Amravati, where doctors confirmed he had suffered deep stab wounds but was now in stable condition.
