Mangaluru, Nov 12: The Nitte Climate Action Program (NCAP) 2025, a flagship initiative by Nitte (Deemed to be University)’s SDG Cell in collaboration with the Dr M Ramanna Shetty Memorial English Medium High School, Tapovana, concluded today with a grand valedictory function at the Avishkar Auditorium, ABSMIDS, Deralakatte.
The function was graced by Dr Prasanna Belur D, professor & dean-ACR (alumni & corporate relations), Dept of chemical engineering, NITK Surathkal, as the chief guest. Prof Dr MS Moodithaya, vice chancellor, Nitte University, presided over the event.





Chief guest Dr Prasanna Belur D, a renowned expert in chemical engineering and corporate relations, addressed the gathering, focusing on the critical link between scientific education, engineering, and sustainable global development.
“The future of climate action hinges on two pillars: technological innovation and responsible leadership,” Dr Belur asserted. “As engineers and scientists, our mission is to develop sustainable solutions—whether it is in renewable energy, novel waste management techniques, or creating biodegradable materials. To the participating students, they be curious, be critical, and learn to apply your academic knowledge to real-world problems,” he advised.
Prof (Dr) M S Moodithaya, vice chancellor, Nitte University, in his presidential address, reaffirmed the University’s dedication to sustainability as a core institutional value.
“The Nitte Climate Action Programme is not an isolated event; it is a manifestation of Nitte University’s foundational commitment to social responsibility and the Sustainable Development Goals,” Prof Moodithaya stated
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the model display competition by the chief guest and the vice chancellor, recognizing excellence in eco-friendly design and innovation.
Dr Suma Ballal, deputy registrar and chief coordinator of the SDG Cell welcomed the guests. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Shashi Kumar Shetty, NSS coordinator, Nitte University.
The valedictory function was preceded by a vibrant model display competition on the themes such as health and wellness related to climate change, ecofriendly environment for a greener planet, Nature is teacher: Learning Sustainability from Indian Knowledge system (IKS), Eco-intelligence: Using AI to heal the planet for school children, held as part of NCAP 2025. The exhibition was inaugurated by Ar Vinod Arhana, director, Nitte Institute of Architecture. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from young students who presented innovative models on various aspects of climate mitigation and sustainability, drawing a large turnout from the public and academic community.
