London, Nov 10: Apple TV’s acclaimed spy dramedy Slow Horses returns for its fifth season, blending the chaos of espionage with the dull absurdities of office life. While the new season keeps the show’s signature wit and tension intact, it offers comfort more than surprise.
The story unfolds in a gloomy London gearing up for a Mayoral election. A mass shooting, allegedly linked to a right-wing candidate, sets off the season’s central mystery. Meanwhile, Shirley (Aimee-Ffion Edwards) saves Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung) from an apparent hit-and-run, leading her to suspect a deeper conspiracy. Back at Slough House, the rest of the team—led by the ever-grumpy Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman)—remains skeptical.

This marks showrunner Will Smith’s final season, and his knack for weaving multiple threads into a cohesive, darkly funny narrative remains intact. As the disgraced agents stumble upon a terrorist plot threatening London, chaos and comedy intertwine seamlessly.
While the plot leans on familiar tropes, Slow Horses thrives on its ensemble’s chemistry and biting humor. The interactions between Lamb, River (Jack Lowden), and Catherine (Saskia Reeves) continue to drive the show’s emotional depth.
Though it doesn’t break new ground, the season reaffirms why Slow Horses remains a rare gem—part thriller, part satire, and all heart.
