Kundapur, Nov 8: The vibrant campus of IMJ Institutions, Moodlakatte, came alive with the grand celebration of the state-level inter-collegiate fest ‘Navonmesh 2025’, which unfolded with enthusiasm, creativity, and spirited participation from students across Karnataka.
The inaugural ceremony was held with great pomp and splendour. The event was inaugurated by Kapu MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty and renowned film actor Deepak Rai Panaje. In his inaugural address, Suresh Shetty emphasized that along with academic excellence, students must cultivate strong values and ethics. He lauded the institution’s founder, the late I M Jayaram Shetty, and Siddharth J Shetty for their visionary contributions that shaped the growth of the institution. Chief guest Deepak Rai Panaje extended his warm wishes to the organizers and appreciated the platform for encouraging young talent.












Dr S N Bhat, academic director of IMJ Institutions, in his presidential address, elaborated on the meaning of Navonmesh (innovation) and said that the fest serves as a space for creativity and talent exploration. Dr Pratibha Patil, principal of IMJISC, presented an overview of the event structure and competitions. Dr Ramakrishna Hegde, principal of MITK, welcomed the gathering, while Prof Jennifer Freda Menezes, principal of MCN College, delivered the vote of thanks.
Prof Karthikeyan, head of the department of data science, introduced the IMJ Group of Institutions. Prof Sookshma Adiga and Prof Archana Upadhyaya, heads of the commerce department, introduced the guests. The programme was skilfully compered by MBA student Shambhavi. More than 1,200 students from various PU colleges participated in the event, competing in a range of academic, cultural, and sports competitions. The ceremony witnessed the presence of Dr Padmacharan, dean of allied health sciences; Prof. Hemalatha, principal of allied science; and student leaders from multiple institutions.
Following a series of vibrant competitions across four divisions — commerce, science, cultural, and sports — the fest culminated in a grand valedictory ceremony that brought together eminent personalities, faculty members, and students in a spirit of celebration.
Chief guest Shanil Gautam, actor of ‘Su From So’ fame, addressed the gathering by reminiscing about his student days and urged students to remain dedicated, heed their teachers’ guidance, and actively engage in all fields to achieve success. Popular playback singer Deeksha Ramakrishna, known for ‘Ede Tumbi Haadidenu’ and ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa', encouraged students to balance academics with hobbies and creative pursuits. She also enchanted the audience with a soulful singing performance before the formal proceedings.
During the prize distribution ceremony, Kundapur DySP H D Kulkarni praised the institution for organizing such a comprehensive event and advised students to participate in extracurricular activities alongside academics, noting that it aids in holistic growth and future success.
The competitions saw remarkable participation, and top performers were felicitated with trophies and cash prizes. Excellent PU College, Sunnari, emerged as the overall champion, winning a trophy and Rs 22,222 cash prize, while Janatha Independent PU College, Hemmadi, bagged the runner-up title with a Rs 15,555 cash prize.
In the Kabaddi event, NMC Sullia secured first place with a trophy and Rs 10,000, followed by Nitte PU College, Mangaluru, with Rs 7,000, and Sri Venkataramana PU College, Kundapur, with Rs 5,000 for second and third positions respectively.
The winners were announced by Prof Swarna Rani, Prof Archana Upadhyaya, Prof Sookshma Adiga, and Praveen Kharvi. Dr Nikhil Pai, head of IQAC, MITK, welcomed the gathering, while Prof Roopashree, vice principal of MCN College, delivered the vote of thanks. Prof Karthikeyan, head of the data science department, presented a detailed report on Navonmesh 2025. Guest introductions were made by Prof Srinidhi, Prof Sinchana, and Prof Aishwarya.
