Mumbai, Nov 8: Even as the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has taken an aggressive stance across Maharashtra following Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s objections over irregularities in the voters’ list, a shocking case has emerged from Mumbai involving Congress MLA and former minister Aslam Shaikh.
Mumbai BJP president Amit Satam on Friday alleged that Shaikh’s name appears in two separate voter lists. Satam shared copies of the voter lists on social media, detailing the entries where Shaikh’s name is reportedly registered twice.

Responding to the allegations, Aslam Shaikh clarified that the duplication was a result of an error by the Election Commission. “I had no idea my name was listed in two constituencies. This is entirely the fault of the Election Commission. They are solely responsible for this mistake,” Shaikh said on Friday.
He added that such issues could easily be identified using software-based checks. “Despite having technological tools, there are massive discrepancies in the voter lists,” Shaikh said, stressing the need for accountability.
Commenting on the upcoming civic polls, Shaikh said there is a strong sentiment among party workers that the Congress should contest the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections independently. “The final decision on whether to contest as part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi or independently will be taken by senior party leaders. But the sentiment among workers is in favour of fighting alone. We are confident that Congress will once again have its mayor in Mumbai,” he said.
Shaikh also took a dig at the BJP, saying, “They are organising Vande Mataram singing events for publicity. I invite BJP leaders to hold the programme at my office instead of on the streets. We will provide them with all facilities.”
