Thane, Nov 6: The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Thane Police has arrested four suspected drug peddlers from Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district after seizing mephedrone worth Rs 2.14 crore from their car, officials said on Wednesday.

According to Senior Inspector Rahul Mhask, the ANC team intercepted a suspicious vehicle near the MTNL office in Charai on Monday evening. A search of the car led to the discovery of 1.716 kg of mephedrone — a banned synthetic drug — hidden inside. The vehicle was subsequently seized.

The accused were identified as Imran alias Bacchu Kizhar Khan (37), Vakas Abdulrab Khan (30), Takuddin Rafique Khan (30), and Kamlesh Ajay Chouhan (23), all residents of Mandsaur.

Police records revealed that Imran Khan has eight prior criminal cases registered against him, while Chouhan has two. Investigators suspect the group was part of a larger interstate drug network operating out of Mandsaur — a region that has repeatedly surfaced in similar narcotics cases in the past.

The men have been charged under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and a probe is underway to identify the suppliers and intended recipients of the seized drugs.
