Lucknow, Sep 10: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a proposed interest-free credit scheme aimed at providing financial assistance of up to Rs 1 lakh to one crore women in the state ahead of the Assembly elections.

Under the proposed Uttar Pradesh Mahila Udyami Credit Yojana, eligible women will receive the credit in three instalments, with the total amount going up to Rs 1 lakh.

The first instalment is expected to be Rs 20,000. Women who repay the amount on time will become eligible for a second tranche of Rs 30,000, followed by a third instalment of Rs 50,000 after repayment of the second tranche.

The proposed scheme comes amid growing political focus on financial support for women in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Assembly elections. There had earlier been speculation that the government could provide Rs 50,000 in financial assistance to women, although no such announcement had been officially made at the time.

The new proposal is aimed at providing women with access to interest-free credit and encouraging entrepreneurship and financial independence across the state.
