Mangaluru, Nov 6: The Department of Speech and Hearing at Father Muller College organised the inauguration ceremony of the National Conference on ‘Tech to Talk: The Role of Modern Technology in Speech and Hearing Sciences’ at the Decennial Memorial Hall, Knowledge Centre, on Thursday, November 6.
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp, symbolising the spread of knowledge and wisdom.
The event was graced by Dr Ruban S, dean, School of Engineering, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, as the chief guest, while Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, director, FMCI, presided over the function.

In his inaugural address, Dr Ruban inspired the gathering with a thought-provoking message, stating, “The graveyard is the wealthiest place on earth filled with unwritten books, unpainted art, and unfulfilled dreams.” He urged participants not to fear taking the first step but to stay determined in pursuing their aspirations.
He further highlighted three important points: the reality of Artificial Intelligence, the need to understand one’s basic requirements, and the importance of collaboration to achieve innovation and progress. He congratulated the organisers, appreciated all the participants, and extended his best wishes and blessings to the students and the college.
In his presidential address, Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo added insight to Dr Ruban’s words, emphasising the power of coordination and teamwork. “Just as the eyes, mouth, and ears work in harmony for communication, engineers and clinicians must collaborate with technology to find the best solutions,” he remarked. He encouraged students to coordinate and innovate in alignment with modern technological needs.
A token of appreciation and memento was presented to Dr Ruban S in gratitude for his valuable presence and inspiring address.
Also present on the occasion were Dr Michael Santhumayor, administrator (FMMC, FMCOAHS & FMCOP); Fr George Jeevan Sequeira, administrator (FMMCH); Prof Cynthia Santhumayor, principal and organising chairperson; and Dr Ramandeep, professor & HoD (SLP) and organising secretary.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the management, faculty, students, and all participants for their active involvement and support in making the conference a grand success.
