Chennai, Oct 25: Fans of Malayalam cinema have reason to celebrate — the makers of director Rahul Sadasivan’s much-anticipated horror thriller Dies Irae, starring Pranav Mohanlal in the lead, unveiled a brand-new trailer on Saturday, sparking excitement across social media.
Sharing the trailer on his official X account, Pranav wrote,
“#DIESIRAE Release Trailer. IN CINEMAS WORLDWIDE FROM OCT 31!”
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared the film with an ‘A’ certificate, paving the way for its Halloween release on October 31.

The newly released trailer opens on an unsettling note — Pranav’s character anxiously scans his surroundings as a haunting voiceover echoes:
“The mighty trumpet’s wondrous tone shall rend each tomb’s sepulchral stone and summon all before the throne. Both heaven and earth will lie in ashes. Full of tears and full of dread is that day that wakes the dead.”
The eerie imagery and poetic narration set the stage for what appears to be a deeply atmospheric horror experience.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting Dies Irae ever since the project was announced. An earlier teaser had already hinted at the film’s psychological depth and supernatural dread. That trailer began with an elderly woman accusing a man of ignoring signs that something was wrong with a child — later revealed to be Pranav Mohanlal’s character, the only son of a family believed by their neighbours to be cursed. Strange and terrifying events surround him, but he struggles in silence, fearing disbelief and ridicule.
Based on true incidents, Dies Irae promises a blend of emotional storytelling and chilling horror, much like Rahul Sadasivan’s previous masterpiece Brammayugam, which starred Mammootty and became a cult hit for its unique black-and-white cinematography and psychological depth.
The new film reunites much of the Brammayugam crew —
• Shehnad Jalal, the acclaimed cinematographer of Brammayugam, returns behind the camera.
• Jothish Shankar handles art direction.
• Shafique Mohammed Ali, who edited Brammayugam, takes on editing duties again.
Dies Irae began filming in Vadakara, Calicut, in late March and impressively wrapped production within a month — well ahead of its 40-day shooting schedule.
With Rahul Sadasivan’s proven horror sensibilities, Pranav Mohanlal’s intense performance, and a team known for crafting atmospheric, thought-provoking horror, Dies Irae is shaping up to be one of the most awaited Malayalam releases of 2025 — and the perfect cinematic experience for Halloween night.
