Rashmika Mandanna’s horror comedy ‘Thamma’ gears up for Deepavali release with U/A certification

Chennai, Oct 18: Aditya Sarpotdar’s much-anticipated horror comedy Thamma, starring Rashmika Mandanna, has officially been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A certificate, setting the stage for its grand theatrical release this Deepavali on October 21.

Excitement around Thamma has been building steadily, especially after the trailer’s release, which revealed a quirky and supernatural plotline. Rashmika introduces Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character Yakshasan as the guardian of the world — until he turns rogue and becomes the titular ‘Thamma’. Ayushmann Khurrana plays Alok, whose life takes a darkly comic turn when he transforms into a vampire, setting off a bizarre chain of events filled with fangs, romance, and chaos.

Rashmika, who couldn’t attend the trailer launch due to shooting commitments in Sicily for Cocktail 2, shared her enthusiasm in a message to fans. “Tadaka is such an important and strong character, and I had the honour and the privilege of playing her,” she said. “I absolutely loved playing her part on screen. I can't wait for all of you to watch Thamma in theatres this Diwali.”

The film features an ensemble cast including Ayushmann Khurrana, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, and Sathyaraj, and is part of the expanding Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik under Maddock Films, Thamma promises a “bloody love story” rooted in forgotten Indian folklore.

Asian Suresh Entertainment, which is handling the Telugu release, confirmed the film’s certification and release date via social media, saying: “Certified U/A and loaded for Diwali. Get ready to witness #Thamma on the big screen!”

With a mix of horror, humour, and mythology, Thamma is set to offer a festive treat for audiences when it hits cinemas worldwide on October 21.
