Port of Spain, Oct 11: Former India wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik came down heavily on youngster Sai Sudharsan for what he termed a “lazy” approach during the opening day of the second Test against West Indies on Friday.
Sudharsan, who scored a fluent 87 off 165 balls, built a solid stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal, but his innings was marked by a few close calls — including a dropped catch when he was on 58.

“Pretty lazy from Sai Sudharsan. He should have been deep in the crease, pulling the ball or playing a stronger shot. That flick was casual, and he needs to focus more. The only reason he won’t get a hundred today is himself,” said Karthik during commentary.
Karthik’s words proved prophetic as Sudharsan later fell LBW to Jomel Warrican, just 13 runs short of his maiden Test century.
Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his golden run, smashing an unbeaten 173 off 253 balls to take India to a commanding 318 for 2 at stumps. His knock, laced with 22 boundaries, was marked by precision, control, and effortless strokeplay.
Captain Shubman Gill (20*) remained at the crease with Jaiswal as India tightened their grip on the match heading into Day 2.
