New Delhi, Oct 3: The nine-day Navratri festival brought record-breaking sales across India, with all segments of the consumer economy — from automobiles to electronics — registering their strongest festive performance in over a decade.
Government sources attribute the surge in consumer sentiment to the NextGen GST reforms, which lowered tax rates and made products more affordable, enabling families to upgrade vehicles, invest in home appliances, and spend more on lifestyle goods.
Brands and retailers reported sales growth ranging from 25% to 100%. In consumer electronics, LG, Haier, and Godrej Appliances posted high double-digit growth, with Haier’s sales soaring 85%. Reliance Retail clocked a 20–25% rise driven by large-screen TVs, smartphones, and fashion, while Vijay Sales recorded 20% year-on-year growth. LG Electronics India also reported “exponential growth.”
Automobiles witnessed an equally impressive boom. Maruti Suzuki reported bookings of 1.5 lakh units and expects to touch 2 lakh, doubling last year’s numbers. On the first day of Navratri, Maruti delivered a record 30,000 cars — its best single-day performance in 35 years. Mahindra & Mahindra reported a 60% jump in sales, while Hyundai’s SUVs accounted for over 72% of its total sales. Tata Motors sold more than 50,000 vehicles, with Altroz, Punch, Nexon, and Tiago in high demand. Hero MotoCorp’s showroom footfalls doubled, and Bajaj Auto also reported strong growth.
Industry experts say this year’s Navratri has set the tone for a buoyant festive season, reflecting rising consumer confidence and economic momentum.
