Chandipur, Feb 6: India on Friday successfully test-fired the nuclear-capable Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) Agni-3 from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha, reaffirming the country’s strategic deterrence capability.

The launch was conducted under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command, with defence officials confirming that all operational and technical parameters of the missile were fully validated during the test.

Agni-3 has an approximate strike range of 3,000 to 3,500 kilometres and is considered a crucial component of India’s strategic missile arsenal. The successful test demonstrated the reliability and operational readiness of the system, officials said.

A two-stage, solid fuel-powered missile, Agni-3 is designed to deliver nuclear warheads deep into enemy territory. After the first stage completes its burn, the second stage ignites to propel the missile along its intended trajectory, ensuring stability and accuracy.

Defence sources noted that while other Agni series missiles and their upgraded variants have been tested in recent times, Agni-3 continues to hold strategic importance as a proven pillar of India’s credible minimum deterrence posture.

The successful trial further strengthens India’s growing portfolio of validated strategic missile systems and underscores the country’s continued focus on maintaining robust national security preparedness.
