Mumbai, Oct 1: In a major administrative move, the Maharashtra government will issue appointment letters to over 10,000 candidates for government jobs on October 4, including 5,187 individuals selected on compassionate grounds.
The large-scale recruitment drive follows instructions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to resolve a backlog of pending compassionate appointment cases. According to an official statement, these appointments had been delayed due to administrative and technical reasons, leaving many families in prolonged uncertainty.
"If a government employee dies while in service, a family member – typically a spouse or child – is eligible for a job on compassionate grounds.
Unfortunately, many such cases were held up. The Chief Minister took note of this sensitive issue and directed the General Administration Department to act," the government said in its release.
Following continuous administrative reviews, a revised compassionate appointment policy was introduced. As a result, 5,187 candidates from the waiting list will finally receive their appointment letters, effectively clearing the long-standing backlog.
In addition, 5,122 candidates who successfully cleared the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination for the Clerk-Typist posts will also be appointed. The collective total of 10,309 appointments marks one of the state’s largest single-day recruitment efforts.
The main appointment ceremony will be held in Mumbai, with Chief Minister Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar in attendance. Guardian Ministers will simultaneously distribute appointment letters in their respective districts.
“This milestone reflects an important phase in Chief Minister Fadnavis’ administrative reform agenda, launched during the government's first 100 and then 150 days,” the statement added.
Regional Breakdown of Appointees:
• Konkan Region: 3,078 candidates
• Vidarbha: 2,597 candidates
• Pune Region: 1,674 candidates
• Nashik Region: 1,250 candidates
• Marathwada: 1,710 candidates
The move is being hailed as a significant step toward both administrative reform and compassionate governance, offering long-awaited relief to thousands of families across the state.
