Mangaluru, Sep 29: In a major breakthrough, the Mangaluru North police, along with the CCB team, arrested five persons in connection with the robbery of a gold bar from an employee of a jewellery shop in the city.

Police arrested Farish (18), Safwan (23) and Arafath Ali (18), Faraz (19) from Ullal, and a juvenile working at Choice Gold shop in Hampankatta, on September 29.

The incident took place on the night of September 26, when Mustafa, an employee of Choice Gold, was carrying a gold bar hidden under the seat of his scooter (KA-19EZ-2079). Around 8:45 pm, near Sri Venkataramana Temple, Car Street, a gang of miscreants intercepted him. While two of the accused came on a scooter and blocked Mustafa, others arrived in a car, abducted him, assaulted him, and later dropped him off at Ekkur after snatching the gold bar.

Based on Mustafa’s complaint, a case (Crime No. 111/2025) was registered at Mangaluru North police station under Sections 137(2) and 310(2) of BNS-2023.

Police investigations revealed that the juvenile employee had informed Farish about the movement of the gold bar. Acting on this tip, the accused hatched a pre-planned conspiracy to rob Mustafa. Safwan arranged the car, while Arafath Ali and Faraz intercepted Mustafa on a scooter. At the same time, the other accused forced Mustafa into a white car, assaulted him, and decamped with the gold bar.

The police have seized the scooter (KA-19HT-8545) used in the crime. Efforts are on to apprehend the remaining accused and recover the car and stolen property.

The arrests were made under the guidance of the deputy commissioner of police (crime & traffic), assistant commissioners of police, central sub-division and CCB unit, by the officials of Mangaluru North police station in joint operation with the CCB team.
