The victim has been identified as Nalini A Nayak, a resident near the post office, who is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

After lunch, Nalini was preparing to go for her usual walk and had just reached the gate when a youth on a bike approached from the Mulki side and asked her where Nagesh Rao’s house was located. The youth followed her on his bike and stopped her near the water tank on the road, brandishing a knife and demanding the chain. When Nalini struck his hand with her umbrella in self-defence, he pushed her aside, snatched the chain, and sped away.

Nalini immediately rushed back home and alerted the police. CCTV footage later revealed the youth fleeing towards Udupi on the national highway.

Mulki town panchayat president Satish Anchan and member Subhash Shetty visited the spot. Mulki police have registered a case and initiated investigation.
