Daund, Sep 28: A tragic road accident occurred on Saturday on the Pune-Solapur National Highway near Vakhari village in Daund taluka, leaving one person dead. The crash unfolded when a tempo traveling from Pune to Solapur lost control, crossed the divider, and collided head-on with another tempo coming from the opposite direction, according to police and CCTV footage.

The impact severely damaged both vehicles, causing panic among nearby motorists and passersby. The accident occurred near the Wakada bridge, a known accident-prone zone on this busy highway. CCTV footage revealed the tempo breaching the divider, leaving the oncoming driver little chance to avoid the collision.

Patas Police arrived promptly at the scene, conducted rescue operations, and restored traffic on the highway. Authorities confirmed one fatality and said investigations are ongoing to determine whether the crash resulted from speeding, driver fatigue, or a technical failure.

The incident has again raised concerns over road safety on the Pune-Solapur corridor, a vital route often witnessing high traffic volumes and frequent accidents. Officials are expected to examine the CCTV footage and may introduce stricter monitoring measures to prevent similar mishaps in the future.
