Haris Rauf fined 30% of match fees for controversial Asia Cup gestures

New Delhi, Sep 26: Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 30 percent of his match fees for provocative gestures during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match against India on September 21, sources told PTI. The penalties follow complaints lodged by the BCCI with the International Cricket Council (ICC).

During the match, Rauf made a controversial ‘6-0’ gesture toward Indian fans and mimicked a plane falling, which prompted the ICC hearing presided over by match referee Richie Richardson. Sahibzada Farhan, who performed a ‘gunshot’ celebration, was let off with a warning after explaining it as a traditional celebration in his Pakhtun community and citing similar gestures by Virat Kohli.

Both players had initially pleaded not guilty in writing but appeared in person for the hearing, accompanied by team manager Naveed Akram Cheema.

In a related development, the ICC also addressed a complaint from the PCB against India skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who had dedicated India’s group-stage win to families affected by the Pahalgam terror attack. Yadav was instructed to avoid political statements in official press conferences in the future after admitting to making the remarks.
