Ameesha Patel chooses career, supports kids silently

Mumbai, Sep 20: Bollywood actor Ameesha Patel, known for hits like Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai and Gadar, has opened up about staying single and child-free by choice, while quietly extending a helping hand to underprivileged children.

Appearing on a podcast hosted by Ranveer Allahbadia, the 50-year-old star revealed she turned down marriage proposals because most suitors expected her to quit acting. “People who love you will let your career prosper. I chose films over love when my partner didn’t want someone in the public eye,” she said, recalling a serious relationship from before her film debut.

Despite remaining single, Ameesha is optimistic about marriage. “I am all up for marriage as long as I find someone worthy. Men half my age still propose to me, and I’m open to it if they are mentally mature,” she smiled.

The actress also shared her deep affection for children. “I love kids. I used to change diapers of my nieces and nephews and even dreamed of having a cricket team of my own,” she said. Instead, she has been quietly funding the education and medical needs of a few underprivileged children without revealing her identity. “It’s a big responsibility to raise a child. That’s also why I don’t have a pet,” she added.

A self-confessed fashion enthusiast, Ameesha fondly spoke of her passion for designer bags and accessories, a hobby she began at 16. “My shoes and bags matched even when I was five. I know the history of all designers,” she revealed.

After a five-year break, Ameesha made a strong comeback with Gadar 2 in 2023, which grossed Rs 686 crore worldwide. She was last seen in Tauba Tera Jalwa (2024), earning praise for her performance despite mixed reviews for the film. Fans await her next big screen outing.
