Mumbai, Sep 18: In a tragic incident early Wednesday, a Mumbai-based businessman, Amit Chopra (47), allegedly ended his life by jumping off the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. His body was later recovered at the Juhu seashore, falling under the jurisdiction of Santacruz police.

Chopra, a resident of Andheri (West), lived with his wife and son. Police sources told The Indian Express that he was traveling in a taxi and asked the driver to stop at the sea-link. Before jumping into the sea, he reportedly shouted about a snake bite.

Originally from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Chopra ran an imitation jewellery business. While his business was reportedly doing well, authorities are conducting a detailed inquiry to determine the reasons behind his drastic action. No suicide note was found at his residence or on his person.

The incident occurred around 1:30 am, when Chopra alighted from the taxi at the sea-link and jumped. The taxi driver immediately informed the sea-link security staff, who in turn alerted the police.

Bandra police have taken cognizance of the matter, and further investigation is underway to confirm the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
