New York, Sep 13: India on Friday voted in favour of a United Nations General Assembly resolution endorsing the ‘New York Declaration’ on the peaceful settlement of the Palestine issue and the implementation of a two-state solution.
The resolution, introduced by France, secured an overwhelming majority with 142 nations voting in support, 10 opposing—including the United States, Israel, Argentina and Hungary—and 12 abstaining.

The declaration, first circulated during a high-level international conference in July co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, urges collective action to end the war in Gaza and achieve a “just, peaceful and lasting” settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
It calls on Israel to publicly commit to the two-state solution, halt violence against Palestinians, stop settlement expansion and annexation activities in the occupied territories, and end settlers’ attacks. The text reaffirms the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and underscores that Gaza is an integral part of a future Palestinian state to be unified with the West Bank.
Warning of the grave implications for regional and international peace if decisive steps are not taken, the declaration stresses that “the war in Gaza must end now” and rejects occupation, siege, territorial reduction, or forced displacement.
