Mangaluru, Aug 31: In connection with the tragic bus accident that claimed six lives at Talapady on August 28 afternoon, Manjeshwar police have arrested the Karnataka KSRTC bus driver, identified as Nijalingappa Chalavadi (47), a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, Bagalkote.
He was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody for two weeks.
The accident occurred on National Highway 66 near Talapady when the KSRTC bus collided with an auto-rickshaw, resulting in the death of the rickshaw driver along with five others. Soon after the collision, the driver reportedly alighted from his seat, leaving the bus unattended on the slope. The vehicle rolled backwards, ramming into passengers standing by the roadside and another auto-rickshaw. Two more persons sustained injuries in the incident.

Meanwhile, clarifying on the accident, Karnataka KSRTC officials stated that there was no brake failure or technical fault in the bus. They confirmed that the mishap was caused due to the driver’s over-speeding and negligent driving.
