Puttur, Aug 20: In connection with a case where a young woman was allegedly deceived under the promise of marriage and later gave birth to a child, blood samples of the victim, the child, and the accused were collected at Puttur court on Tuesday for DNA testing.
The accused, Srikrishna J Rao, who is currently lodged in Mangaluru jail, was produced before the Puttur court on Tuesday afternoon. The victim, her child, and her mother were also present at the court. In the presence of the judge, doctors from the taluk government hospital collected the blood samples of the three individuals. This step is seen as crucial to the progress of the investigation.

The collected blood samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Bengaluru for DNA testing. The samples were transported by women police staff on a bus, accompanied by the victim’s mother, as there were concerns raised earlier about possible tampering with the DNA report.
Police are required to submit the charge sheet in this case within 60 days. The first stage of the charge sheet has already been filed, awaiting numbering by the court. Police sources indicated that additional details may be included in the charge sheet as the investigation progresses.
The accused, Srikrishna J Rao, allegedly exploited his classmate by making her believe he would marry her. When she became pregnant, he reportedly refused to marry her. The victim gave birth to a baby boy on June 27. Based on the victim’s complaint, the accused was arrested. As his bail plea was rejected by the court, he remains in judicial custody.
