Mangaluru, Aug 19: The school of engineering, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), inaugurated four student clubs: the coding club, IoT club, innovation club, and entrepreneurship club, in a vibrant ceremony aimed at empowering students to become creators, problem-solvers, and change-makers. The event was graced by Suraj Chettri, vice president & head of HR – India & South Asia / head of Site, Bangalore, Airbus India, as chief guest, and Dr Kiran Cotha SJ, director, AIMIT, as guest of honour. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, vice chancellor, presided over the event. Also present were Dr S Ruban, dean of the school of engineering, faculty members, and students.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Kiran Cotha SJ urged students to “be inquisitive, be adaptable, and build resilience”, adding that “entrepreneurship is not mere inventing; innovation is a movement.” In his keynote, Suraj Chettri encouraged students to know their purpose in life, continue learning, and find joy in giving rather than receiving. He reminded them to “stay grounded while making a difference in the lives of others.” Dr Praveen Martis SJ congratulated the school of engineering for initiating these clubs and expressed his belief that they would provide students with valuable opportunities to make a difference. He further inspired students to prepare themselves for challenges, emphasising that “creators are the need of the hour. “Fly, come back, fly again, higher, but remain grounded and serve society," he added.

Glenson Toney, faculty member and coordinator of the entrepreneurship club, introduced the clubs, urging students to view problems as opportunities to solve, build businesses and create impact. “Solutions should not only address challenges but also have the potential to grow into sustainable businesses,” he said. Dr S Ruban, dean of SOE, in his vote of thanks, encouraged students to make the best use of these platforms to innovate and build ventures. Dr Geetha Pinto delivered the welcome address. Following the inauguration, Chettri delivered an insightful address on the fundamentals of engineering, linking innovation with career growth. He highlighted the importance of the three A’s: Altitude (basic fundamentals), Aptitude (logical thinking), and Attitude (key to success), in shaping successful professionals.
The launch of these four clubs marks a significant step towards nurturing an ecosystem of creativity, collaboration, and entrepreneurial spirit at the School of Engineering.
