According to police, on August 12, Vinay had travelled to Udupi for personal work and returned home by 6 pm, later going to bed in his room. Around 11:45 pm, the accused — identified as Ajith, Akshendra, and Pradeep — allegedly forced their way into Vinay’s house and began searching for him.

Hearing noises, Vinay woke up. The trio reportedly tried to snatch his mobile phone, after which Ajith restrained him while Akshendra and Pradeep attacked him with a mace and a knife, fatally beheading him.

Police said the motive appears to be revenge, as Vinay had allegedly shared and made viral an audio clip of Akshendra and another person named Jeevan.

After the attack, the accused fled the scene on a scooter. Udupi City Police have registered a case and are investigating.
