Bengaluru, Aug 13: Bengaluru's Namma Metro has smashed its previous ridership record, with a staggering 1.048 million passengers travelling across Bengaluru’s Purple, Green, and Yellow lines in a single day — a first for the city’s rapid transit system.

The milestone eclipses the prior high of 966,000 passengers set on June 4, boosted significantly by the addition of the Yellow line, which pushed daily footfall past the coveted 1 million mark.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials reported that 451,816 commuters used the Purple line, 291,677 travelled on the Green line, and 52,215 boarded the Yellow line. Meanwhile, a notable 252,323 passengers switched lines via interchange stations, highlighting seamless connectivity.

Ticketing data reveals diverse usage patterns: 503,837 passengers purchased two-ride tickets, 303,165 opted for three-ride tickets, while 208,382 used QR code tickets. Additionally, 32,198 commuters travelled using the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) and 450 availed group tickets, according to BMRCL sources.

This record-breaking surge signals growing public trust and reliance on Bengaluru’s metro system as a convenient, efficient, and sustainable transport option amid rising urban mobility demands.
