Mangaluru, Aug 10: The Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) held the second round of its 61st annual singing competition on Sunday, August 10, at Don Bosco Hall, Mangaluru. The event, which began at 10 am, is part of the Sabha’s annual series aimed at promoting and preserving Konkani music.
The programme began with the KNS anthem, followed by a welcome address from vice-president Floyd D’Mello Cascia, who encouraged participants and greeted guests, judges and the audience.
Guests and inauguration
Renowned musicians Ivan Mascarenhas (Bejai) and Edith D’Souza (Angelore) were the chief guests. The lamp-lighting ceremony was led by Floyd D’Mello, General Secretary Pamela Santos, Assistant Secretary Jerome Moras, and Treasurer Ivan D’Silva, along with the judges and conveners Joseph Theodore and Flavia Mascarenhas.
Judging panel and entries
Judges Joshal Sweeda D’Souza (Bendur), Zeena Pereira (Angelore), Carol Sequeira (Valencia), and Rynel Sequeira (Cordel) brought their expertise to the event.
A total of 110 entries competed across categories and age groups — below 10 years, 10–15 years, and above 15 years — in both solo and duet formats.
Organisation and coordination
KNS Manager Gerald Concessao coordinated the smooth running of the event. Scores were tabulated by Ivan D’Silva and Jerome Moras, with technical support from Christopher Mascarenhas (Bendur Unit). Units from Cascia, Urwa, Bejai and the Ladies Unit, along with the managing committee, assisted in coordination.
Compering was handled by Edward Coelho (Derebail Unit) and Anil D’Cunha, supported by Cletus Lobo and Gladys Pereira. Judges were introduced by Joseph Theodore, and Flavia Mascarenhas delivered the vote of thanks.
Grand finale guidelines
The final round will require participants to perform a complete song using the munis track. Each participant must select a unique song; no repetitions will be allowed.
For duet and group categories, only contestants from earlier rounds qualify, and duet partners or group members
cannot be changed.
Grand finale date
The grand finale will be held on Sunday, September 14, at Don Bosco Hall, Mangaluru, starting at 9:30 am.
