Beltangady, Aug 11: The sister of Padmalatha, who was raped and murdered nearly four decades ago, visited the Special Investigation Team (SIT) office in Beltangady on Monday, August 11 to submit a formal request for reinvestigation into the case.

Indravati, the victim’s sister, arrived at the SIT office accompanied by CPM leader B M Bhat and others. She said the complaint would be submitted once senior SIT officials arrived at the station.

Padmalatha, a resident of Boliyaru, was raped and killed in 1986.

The SIT was formed following allegations from an anonymous witness that several bodies had been buried in Dharmasthala village in connection with earlier crimes. The team has been carrying out investigations, and a dedicated SIT office with the status of a police station has recently been opened in Beltangady.
