Nagpur, Aug 3: Tension gripped parts of Nagpur on Sunday morning after a hoax bomb threat was issued to the residence of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, prompting a swift police response. The accused, identified as Umesh Vishnu Raut, was later arrested by the Nagpur crime branch for allegedly making the false threat.
According to police sources, the control room received a distress call on emergency helpline 112 early in the day, claiming a bomb had been planted at the senior BJP leader’s house. Authorities immediately launched an investigation, deploying teams to secure the area and trace the origin of the call.

Using technical support, officials traced the mobile number to Raut, a resident of Tulsi Bagh Road near Vima Dawakhana in the Sakkardara locality of the city. He was detained from the premises of the Dawakhana and taken into custody for questioning.
Raut, who is employed at a country liquor outlet, was later arrested after it was confirmed that the bomb threat was false.
Police have registered a case against the accused. Senior officers said that further investigation is ongoing to ascertain the motive behind the false call and to verify whether Raut has a history of similar offences.
