Amazon plans to introduce ads in Alexa+ conversations, says CEO Andy Jassy

Seattle, Aug 1: Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has revealed that the company plans to introduce advertisements within user interactions on Alexa+, its AI-powered voice assistant. The announcement was made during Amazon’s second-quarter earnings call on Thursday.

Alexa+, launched in February and currently available in the US, is being used by millions of users, according to Jassy. The enhanced version offers multiturn conversations, smart home integrations, and advanced AI capabilities, including music playback, appointment bookings, and grocery orders.

Speaking to stakeholders, Jassy said that advertising would eventually become part of Alexa+ interactions, helping users with discovery while also generating revenue. “Over time, there will be opportunities… to have advertising play a role,” he stated.

Jassy also hinted at the possibility of a future subscription model for Alexa+, though he clarified that this won't be introduced immediately. At present, Alexa+ is free for Amazon Prime members, while non-members pay $9.99 (approx. Rs 875) per month.

The international rollout of Alexa+ is expected to begin later this year.
