Dublin, Jul 23: In a disturbing incident in Tallaght, Dublin, an Indian man in his 40s was brutally assaulted and partially stripped by a group of attackers on Saturday evening. The victim, who had arrived in Ireland just three weeks ago, was left bleeding with severe injuries to his face, arms, and legs, and was rushed to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment.
The attack took place around 6 pm on Parkhill Road. The Irish police (Gardai) have launched an investigation and are treating the incident as a possible hate crime. The man was reportedly falsely accused of inappropriate behaviour around children — a claim the Gardai later dismissed as baseless.

India's Ambassador to Ireland, Akhilesh Mishra, condemned the assault and questioned the use of the word “alleged” in describing such a violent act. He also thanked the local community and authorities for their support and demanded justice.
Local Fine Gael councillor Baby Pereppadan, who visited the victim, said the man was in deep shock and unable to speak. "He is not taking any visitors at the moment," he said, adding that such attacks are becoming worryingly frequent in Tallaght and urged stronger police presence.
Sinn Féin TD Seán Crowe condemned the incident as "vile, violent and racist," saying that fear is growing in the community. “Some residents are increasingly nervous to leave their homes,” he added.
The Irish Times reported that the incident has left the local community outraged. TD Paul Murphy blamed both the attackers and those spreading “racist lies,” calling for unity against hate.
Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan also addressed rising xenophobia, stating that there is no data supporting the claim that immigrants are more likely to commit crimes. “In fact, the percentage of immigrants in prison is lower than their share in society,” he said.
The case has sparked a wave of concern and calls for action to protect Ireland’s immigrant population.
