Manchester, Jul 22: Elyh Harrison, a promising 19-year-old goalkeeper from Manchester United, has joined Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan for the 2025/26 League Two campaign.
This marks Harrison’s second loan spell, following a successful stint with Chester FC in the National League North during the first half of the 2024/25 season. There, he made 18 appearances, showcasing maturity and shot-stopping prowess before returning to United in January to feature for the Under-21s and even earn a place on the senior matchday squad as an unused substitute in February.
Signed by United from Stevenage in 2022, Harrison quickly made a name for himself in the club’s Under-18 setup, praised for his composure with the ball at his feet and solid performances between the posts. His standout contributions during the 2023/24 campaign helped United's U18s secure a historic treble, earning him the Denzil Haroun Reserve-Team Player of the Year award.

An England Under-19 international, Harrison will now link up with Michael Appleton, head coach at Shrewsbury Town and himself a former United Academy graduate. Appleton won the same Reserve-Team Player of the Year accolade in 1996 and later went on to play for Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion.
Speaking about the signing, Shrewsbury’s Director of Football Micky Moore said, “We’ve been targeting Elyh since the end of last season. We saw his performances at Chester and monitored him closely at United’s Under-21s. He has the right mentality and skillset, and we believe this loan could be a major step in his development.”
“There was significant interest in him, so we’re thrilled to finally bring him in. Michael [Appleton] was keen to get him through the door early, and we’re excited to see what he brings to the squad,” Moore added.
