Srinagar, Jul 21: PDP chief and former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has written a strongly worded letter to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, urging him to raise his voice in Parliament against what she termed the systematic disempowerment of Indian Muslims.
Highlighting incidents such as the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, and evictions in Assam and Bihar, Mufti accused the government of orchestrating a targeted campaign against Muslims. She warned that terms like “Bangladeshis” and “Rohingyas” were being weaponised to justify bulldozing homes and displacing communities, particularly in the northeast and eastern regions.

“This silence,” she wrote, “is an attempt to erase the Muslim presence both symbolically and literally.”
Mufti also criticised the selective outrage shown by political leaders and the national media—condemning persecution of Hindus abroad while, she claimed, ignoring similar issues faced by Muslims within India.
Calling on Rahul Gandhi to uphold the values of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, she said: “As a politician from a Muslim-majority region, I often find myself helpless. I place my last vestiges of hope in your leadership.”
Her appeal comes as the INDIA bloc prepares to challenge the BJP-led government during the Monsoon Session on issues like communal polarisation, civil liberties, and religious violence.
While Congress is yet to respond publicly, the letter is being seen by political analysts as both a plea and a pressure point—urging the national opposition to act boldly and consistently in defence of India’s largest minority.
