Marquez powers to victory in Czech MotoGP, widens world championship lead

Brno, Jul 20: Spanish MotoGP icon Marc Marquez delivered yet another masterclass on the track, winning the Czech Grand Prix in commanding style on Sunday. With this, the Ducati rider has now claimed his eighth victory in 12 races this season, including five consecutive wins, further tightening his hold over the 2025 MotoGP World Championship.

In a high-octane race held under clear skies at Brno, Marquez showcased clinical precision and unmatched control. He crossed the finish line nearly two seconds ahead of Marco Bezzecchi, who was representing Aprilia. Pedro Acosta, riding for KTM, took the third position, celebrating his first podium finish of the season.

Marquez, who had already triumphed in the sprint race on Saturday, completed another perfect weekend — his fifth this season. The 32-year-old Spaniard now leads the world championship standings with 381 points, enjoying a significant advantage over his closest competitors. His younger brother Alex Marquez, who had a disappointing outing, crashed out on the second lap and failed to score any points after finishing 17th in the sprint. Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia, who started from pole, trails behind Marquez by 168 points.

The race started with Bagnaia in front, but his lead was short-lived. By the second lap, Bezzecchi had moved ahead, followed closely by Marquez and Acosta. The three soon broke away from the rest of the pack, maintaining their positions until the end. Marquez made his decisive move in lap eight, overtaking Bezzecchi with ease and maintaining the lead until the chequered flag. While Bagnaia tried to challenge Acosta for third, the young Spaniard held off the pressure and defended his podium spot.

Meanwhile, reigning world champion Jorge Martin managed to finish seventh, earning his first points of the season. Martin, who had missed several races due to multiple crashes, was visibly relieved to finally complete a race.

However, it was a disappointing day for several riders. Alex Marquez collided with Joan Mir, both ending their races early, while Enea Bastianini also exited after a crash just one lap later. All riders escaped without serious injury.

With another dominant performance under his belt, Marc Marquez continues to march ahead, setting a blistering pace in the championship battle and leaving his rivals scrambling to catch up as the season heads toward its crucial stages.
