Mangaluru, July 16: The ongoing monsoon downpour in Mangaluru has once again laid bare the deteriorating condition of the city’s roads. Heavy rains have exposed the poor quality of road infrastructure, with potholes emerging across several key areas.
One of the worst-affected stretches is the Kankanady Pumpwell Road, a vital gateway to Mangaluru. The entire stretch is riddled with potholes, turning it into a nightmare for motorists. Despite repeated complaints, the concerned authorities appear to be neglecting timely and long-term road repairs.

Every year, the situation repeats itself. Temporary patchwork carried out during the winter or summer fails to withstand the monsoon. The tar washes away within a few months, leaving behind damaged roads and hazardous driving conditions.
Motorists are left to bear the brunt, navigating through pothole-filled roads that significantly increase the risk of accidents. This is especially dangerous during the monsoon, as water-filled potholes make it difficult to gauge their depth, leading to potentially fatal mishaps.
The authorities must act urgently and implement a lasting solution to repair and maintain these roads to ensure the safety of commuters.
