Udupi, July 7: The audition rounds of Abhivyaktha, the much-awaited oratory competition for high school students organized by Daijiworld Udupi and Kishoo Enterprises, were held on Sunday at Silas International School, Udupi.

Dr Raviraja N S, senior director – research, Manipal Centre for Biotherapeutics Research, MAHE; Jacintha Saldanha, principal, Silas International School; and Ravindra Shetty, proprietor, Girija Healthcare and Surgicals, were the chief guests for the inaugural function. Kishoo Barkur, director, Daijiworld Udupi, and Kevin Rodrigues, operations manager, Daijiworld Udupi, along with judges Alwyn Danthy and Shreyas Kotian, were present.

The formal inauguration was done by participating students by placing the letters of Abhivyaktha, accompanied by principal Jacintha Saldanha. Ravindra Shetty unveiled the medals to be presented to participants selected in the audition round.

Speaking on the occasion, Jacintha Saldanha said, “Today we are here to celebrate the art of expression, the power of words, and the vibrancy of young minds. Effective communication is crucial to inspire, educate, and unite. Elocution is not just about speaking; it’s about conveying ideas, persuading, and inspiring others. This platform is your canvas and your voice – speak with conviction, passion, and authenticity. I extend heartfelt appreciation to Daijiworld Udupi for partnering with Silas International School to provide such a platform. I wish all participants the very best.”

Alwyn Danthy, ace anchor and jury member, said, “Speech is powerful. Speakers today have the ability to win over the world – be it in politics, religion, or the social sphere. Even when we don’t see a person, we are moved by their words. We have successfully completed Chanaksha Challenge Season 3 and now move forward with Abhivyaktha. We are grateful to all school heads, parents, and teachers for preparing students.”

Shreyas Kotian, fellow jury member, said, “In the 1980s, Galvano predicted that a new ‘disease’ called shyness would affect society. In a corporatized world, being outspoken is necessary. To identify talent, Daijiworld Udupi has organized this programme.”

Ravindra Shetty lauded Daijiworld and Kishoo Enterprises for their social responsibility. “This initiative is a great service to the education sector. We’ve been associated with Daijiworld for over seven years. Many social service initiatives exist, but Daijiworld treats this programme as a genuine social responsibility, beyond profit and loss.”

Dr Raviraja N S said, “I was honoured to receive the invitation for this programme, which aims to nurture high school students' intelligence and highlights the Kannada language. Today’s children are immersed in digital spaces, and co-curricular activities are losing importance. It’s common for parents to call children from another floor instead of walking to them. Daijiworld has previously conducted successful quiz and Antakshari competitions. While many can speak off stage, public speaking often brings stage fright. This competition aims to bring out the best in high school students. Preparing for such contests improves knowledge, networking, and outlook. This is a CSR initiative by Daijiworld Udupi and Kishoo Enterprises.”

Dr Raviraja handed over the mic to the judges, marking the formal beginning of the auditions. Alwyn Danthy Pernal, Shreyas Kotian, and Rajendra Bhat Karkala served as the jury.

A total of 100 students from over 60 schools in Udupi and Mangaluru participated in the programme.

Sneha Vinod Pai compered the event. Pragathi Puthran welcomed the gathering.

The audition round will soon air on Daijiworld 24x7 channel and will also be available on Daijiworld Udupi’s YouTube and social media platforms. The competition comprises various rounds, culminating with the top six contestants qualifying for the finale.
