Jeddah, Jul 6: Bayern Munich’s rising star Jamal Musiala suffered a horrific injury during the club’s 0-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday, sidelining him for an estimated 4–5 months.
The 21-year-old midfielder went down after an innocuous collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, only for the moment to turn grim as he appeared to suffer a twisted ankle. Later reports confirmed a broken left fibula and significant ligament damage.

The sight of Musiala's injury left players and fans stunned. Donnarumma, visibly shaken, showed concern on the pitch, while Bayern players struggled to hold back emotion. Musiala was stretchered off and replaced by Serge Gnabry for the second half.
Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany expressed deep frustration after the match. “I’ve rarely been so angry at half-time, not at my players,” Kompany told reporters. “Jamal lives for this. He had just come back from a setback. Now this happens—it’s heartbreaking.”
Kompany urged his team to use the setback as motivation. “You want to do it for Jamal. The result is not what hurts the most—it’s seeing someone who loves the game so much go through this.”
Support poured in from across the football world. PSG defender Marquinhos said, “It’s something you never want to see on the field. A shout-out to Jamal Musiala.” Teammate Achraf Hakimi added, “We hope to see him back soon.”
Musiala, one of football’s brightest young talents, had recently returned from injury and was expected to play a key role in Bayern’s upcoming season. His absence now poses a major challenge for the German club as they regroup following their Club World Cup defeat.
