St Aloysius University observes International Yoga Day

Mangaluru, Jun 21: The department of Physical Education and Sports Management of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) in collaboration with NCC, NSS, YRC, Delampadi Yoga Foundation and Decathlon, organised the 11th International Yoga Day under the theme "Yoga for One Earth One Health".

Speaking as the chief guest of the programme, Swami Jitakamananda Maharaj of Ramakrishna Math said that "Yoga, which originated in India, is practiced by most of the people of the world today. Yoga is a method of developing a holistic personality," he said, adding that, practicing yoga balances the body, mind and energy.

Vice chancellor of St Aloysius University Dr Praveen Martis presided over the programme. He said that everyone should engage in yoga practice for a stress-free life and yoga can provide deep peace and tranquillity to the mind by balancing the body and mind. He also said that St Aloysius University is always encouraging yoga activities of its students.

Neeta Shetty, Yoga director of Delampadi Yoga Foundation, provided appropriate guidance to do the yoga asanas. Roshani Shenoy and Sanvi Shetty, yoga students of the university, collaborated with her.

Staff members of the university and a large number of students, NCC cadets, NSS students, YRC students and yoga students participated in the Yoga Day celebration with great enthusiasm. The institution's registrars Dr Allwyn D’Sa and Dr Ronald Nazareth were present. Programme coordinator Dr Ishwar Bhat welcomed the gathering. Arun D'Souza, director of physical education of the university, proposed the vote of thanks. Roshani Shenoy compered the programme.
