Mangaluru, Jun 19: New deputy commissioner Darshan K V has said that his immediate focus will be on assessing the recent rain damage, ensuring preventive measures, and continuing effective governance in Dakshina Kannada district.

“This district is known for its good administration. This is my first posting here. During my tenure in Chikkamagaluru, I had several friends from this region and would visit frequently,” he said.

He added, “Over the next three to four days, I will review the current situation, understand key issues, and hold meetings with all major departments. Outgoing deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan will also share his insights, which will help us identify and prioritise pressing concerns. In the coming days, we aim to work in an effective and result-oriented manner.”

Addressing the ongoing monsoon situation, he said, “Our immediate priority is to assess the impact of recent rains, review the damages, identify vulnerable houses, and take all necessary preventive measures.”

On the issue of sand mining, he stated, “I have just taken charge today and will hold a meeting with the police department. Once the review is done, sand mining will also be one of the main priorities to regulate and control.”

Introducing himself, he said, “I hail from Chitradurga. I served as a probationary officer in Raichur, assistant commissioner at Sagar sub-division, ZP CEO in Kolar and Belagavi districts, corporation commissioner in Tumakuru, director of IT and BT in the Department of Electronics in Bengaluru, and additional commissioner for commercial tax. I now take charge as the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.”

When asked about communal sensitivity in certain areas, Darshan K V said, “I prefer not to comment on this, as the police department has already taken appropriate action. We have all witnessed how peace and harmony have been maintained. If that continues, it will be a positive sign for the district.”
