Puttur: 28-year-old woman, seven months pregnant, dies by suicide

Puttur, June 17: In a tragic incident, a seven-month pregnant woman ended her life by suicide at a rented house in Chikkaputtur, near Puttur, on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Reshma (28), wife of Chinthan, a local leader associated with Puttila Parivara Seva Trust. She was the daughter of Jayant Gujran from Bolar, Mangaluru. Reshma and Chinthan were married four years ago and have a young daughter. At the time of her death, Reshma was seven months pregnant with their second child.

According to reports, the incident took place when Chinthan was not at home. Reshma allegedly hanged herself in the rented house. Her father, Jayant Gujran, has stated in his complaint to the police that his daughter was battling depression, which might have driven her to take the extreme step.

A case has been registered at the Puttur Town police station and further investigations are underway.

    Depression during pregnancy is a common condition which affects majority of women. It's characterized by persistent sadness, anxiety, fatigue, and changes in sleep and eating patterns. Untreated depression during pregnancy can negatively impact both the mother and the developing fetus!!! Hence, it's the responsibility of near & dear one's to understand the situation & do professional counselling if required
