KMC Mangaluru celebrates College Day, Award Ceremony with grandeur

Mangaluru, Jun 7: Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Mangaluru celebrated its College Day and Award Ceremony at the TMA Pai Hall on Friday, June 7.

Padma Shri awardee, Dr B C Roy Award recipient, Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE), and distinguished alumnus of KMC Mangaluru, Dr P Raghu Ram, addressed the gathering on the occasion.

“Exactly 30 years ago, I secured a rank in the MS University examination. That was a major turning point in my life, and since then, there has been no looking back. I thank my teachers who laid the foundation, nurtured my talent, and gave wings to my dreams,” said Dr Raghu Ram.

Sharing his guiding principles, Dr Raghu Ram highlighted nine ‘sutras’ that have shaped his life: trust; ethics—emphasising the nobility of the medical profession and the importance of prioritising patients’ well-being; communication skills; focus; hard work; honesty; life-changing habits like meditation; staying positive; talking to the universe and manifesting dreams; and finally, remembering your mother, motherland, and mother tongue.

Dr Raghu Ram was also felicitated during the event.

Awards were presented to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Additionally, a special postal cover commemorating the platinum jubilee celebrations of KMC Mangaluru was released by the dignitaries.

Dean of KMC Mangaluru, Dr Unnikrishnan, welcomed the gathering and presented the annual college report.

The event was compered by Dr Saraswathy Sreeram, associate director of Alumni Relations, MAHE, and Dr Saiesh M Mardolkar, assistant professor of biochemistry, KMC Mangaluru.

Also present were Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor of MAHE; Dr Dilip G Nayak, pro-vice chancellor, MAHE; Dr Sharath K Rao, pro-vice chancellor for Health Sciences, MAHE; associate dean Dr Suresh Kumar; Dr Srikala Baliga; and several other dignitaries.
