Mangaluru, June 3: In a bid to curb traffic violations and enhance public safety, the Mangaluru city police launched a special joint operation on June 2 and 3 targeting vehicles with tinted windows and black films in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The operation was carried out by teams from the city traffic police and law and order units across Mangaluru Commissionerate limits. A total of 223 cases were registered against owners and drivers of vehicles found using black film or tinted glass. Fines amounting to Rs 1,11,500 were collected during the drive.

In addition to imposing fines, the police also removed the illegal tint films and stickers from the windshields and windows of the 223 vehicles and issued warnings to the offenders. Educational instructions were provided to ensure compliance with legal requirements going forward.
Further, on June 3, the city police organised a meeting at the Commissioner’s office and police stations with owners of car showrooms, accessory shops, garages, and sticker outlets operating within the commissionerate jurisdiction.
During the session, participants were informed about the Supreme Court order prohibiting the use of additional tint on vehicle glass, as such modifications can be misused for illegal activities. Shop owners were instructed not to install tinted films on customers' vehicles.
Police have confirmed that this special enforcement drive will continue in the coming days.
