Davangere, Jun 3: The reopening and inauguration ceremony for the academic year 2025–26 at St Aloysius International School, Harihar, was held on May 29 in the school quadrangle. The event began under clear skies and hopeful hearts, marking a new academic journey with enthusiasm, reverence, and a strong sense of purpose.

A march into the new horizon

The programme began with a vibrant procession titled ‘Steps into the New Horizon.’ The school band led the way with rhythmic pride, followed by the Scout team, and students from Nursery to grade 9, who walked to the venue along with their parents and class teachers. This moving assembly reflected unity and growth.

Adding significance to the occasion was the presence of dignitaries:

Ceremonial inauguration and address

The formal welcome and introduction were given by Prasad, the master of ceremony. An interreligious prayer coordinated by Sr Angel invoked blessings across all faiths, fostering an atmosphere of unity and peace.

The traditional lighting of the lamp, organized by Nizba, symbolised the ushering in of knowledge and divine guidance.

Sweedal delivered a warm welcome speech, setting a tone of optimism and unity for the new academic year.

In her inaugural address, principal Sr Shanti David spoke about the school’s academic vision, underlining the importance of value-based education and encouraging students to embrace the year ahead with dedication and joy.

Theme for the year unveiled: 'Showing the Way to God'

A highlight of the event was the unveiling of the academic year’s theme: ‘Showing the Way to God.’ The theme was revealed in a symbolic gesture by Fr Eric Mathias, Sr Shanti David, Fr John Baptist, and Fr Vinod. This Jesuit-inspired theme reinforces the school’s mission to guide students not only in academics but also in their personal and spiritual journeys.

Cultural expression and student reflections

A meaningful theme dance performed by the staff, choreographed by Akshatha, brought the values of the year’s theme to life.

Fr Vinod presented the vision for the academic year, urging students to pursue excellence with discipline, faith, and compassion.

Students Tanushree (grade 9), Nandhini (grade 8), and Allen (grade 8) confidently shared their hopes and aspirations for the year, offering a glimpse into the excitement and resolve among the student body.

Presidential address and conclusion

In his presidential address, director Fr Eric Mathias called on the school community to embrace interreligious harmony, inclusivity, and spirituality. He emphasised that true education must help students find purpose, develop values, and strive for the betterment of society.

A vote of thanks was proposed by Sweedal, appreciating the efforts of everyone who contributed to the success of the event.

The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, evoking unity and patriotism.
