Mangaluru, June 2: Several shops were shifted to the newly constructed Kadri–Mallikatte market from the temporary market on Monday, June 2.
The foundation stone for the new market was laid in 2019, and after six years, the Kadri–Mallikatte market has finally opened to the public. The market had remained unused for the past year due to technical issues.

Now equipped with all basic amenities, more than 25 to 30 shops—including meat and fish stalls, flower vendors, grocery stores, and others—have begun operating from the new premises. Built at a cost of Rs 10 crore, the market features a ground floor and three additional floors.
The Kankanady market is expected to be completed in the coming days. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to resolve the technical issues delaying the opening of the Urwa market.
The temporary Kadri–Mallikatte market will be demolished. A tender has been issued, allowing private shop owners to occupy the remaining spaces in the new market.
