Bantwal, May 29: Abdul Rehman, who was murdered recently, had been building a new home adjacent to his current residence and dreamed of moving in soon to begin a new chapter of life. Tragically, that dream was cut short before it could be realised.
According to locals, Rehman was a hardworking labourer who shared a good rapport with everyone in the area. He is survived by his wife and two young children—one aged three years and the other just 1 year and 8 months.

They could have killed me instead: Rehman’s father
In a heart-wrenching statement, Rehman’s father Abdul Khader said, “My son never interfered in anyone’s matters. If they had a grudge against him, they could have just slapped him twice. But they killed him. If they wanted blood, they could have killed me instead.”
“I saw him drive past our house in a pickup vehicle around 3 pm after he returned from work in the morning. After that… he never came back. Now that my son is gone, what’s the point in living? We’re unwell—who will now bring us medicines?” he added in grief.
Rehman had no criminal record, nor was his name ever mentioned in any police station, locals confirmed. Despite this, he was brutally murdered, prompting allegations of a larger conspiracy.
Abdul Rasheed Hanifi, vice president of SKSSF Mangaluru zone, has demanded that the case be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), compensation of Rs 1 crore be given to the bereaved family, and a government job be provided to one of the family members.
“Compensation cannot bring back the life lost, but the family needs support to survive. The home minister and the district in-charge minister must visit the family,” he added.
