Udupi, May 28: As part of a protest called by the Karnataka State Civil Servants Association, civil workers in Udupi staged a day-long protest by boycotting their duties.

All civil workers refrained from work and held a protest near the Udupi city municipality office.

Their demands included recognition as state government employees and the extension of benefits such as Jyothi Sanjeevini, KGID, and other facilities currently provided to state government staff. They also sought direct payment for outsourced workers serving as programmers, water supply workers, drivers, loaders, cleaners, gardeners, sanitary supervisors, computer operators, UGD helpers, and others. Additional demands included the regularization of daily wage workers and disbursal of salaries to special recruitment employees through SFC funds.

Due to the protest, road cleaning, garbage collection, and other municipal services were disrupted.

Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna visited the protestors and, addressing them, said, “Many protests are happening across the state, but the government is ignoring them all. As an MLA, I feel responsible and have come here to support you. I will bring this issue to the notice of the Chief Minister. You all are an integral part of the City Municipality, and I fully support your protest.”

CMC opposition party leader Ramesh Kanchan, member Amrutha Krishnamurthy, and others also visited the protest site and extended their support.
