Mangaluru: House near Kembar Maroli faces collapse after compound wall caves in

Mangaluru, May 27: A house near Kembar Maroli is on the verge of collapse after its compound wall gave way on May 26 following heavy rain.

The house, located in a low-lying area, belongs to Jerome D’Souza and is currently rented out to four youngsters. An adjacent house, which belonged to another individual, was recently demolished. During the demolition and construction work, the ground was dug excessively deep, which led to the collapse of the compound wall due to the rain.

The tenants now live in fear as cracks have appeared around the house, raising concerns about its structural safety. Jerome had reportedly warned the concerned parties a year ago not to dig too deep and had requested the construction of a retaining wall. However, the retaining wall was never built, and the foundation of the house is now visibly exposed. The contractor has not yet visited the site.

As a temporary safety measure, a tarpaulin has been installed.
