According to sources, a Shraddha ceremony was being held today at the residence of Ishwar Bhat of Andepuni. His daughter Apoorva and granddaughter had travelled from Bengaluru to Puttur to attend the ritual. Ishwar Bhat was bringing them home from Puttur town in his car when a private bus reportedly rammed into the car from behind near the Mura Junction.

The injured were immediately rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru. Further details are awaited. Puttur traffic police visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Coincidentally, Panjigudde Ishwar Bhat, president of the Puttur Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple Management Committee, who was returning from milk distribution along the same route, along with other locals, responded swiftly to the accident. They rescued the injured passengers from the mangled car. According to eyewitnesses, an iron rod had to be used to pry open the car door during the rescue operation.
